A FEW POSITIVE WORDS FOR ROMNEY

Well, now is as good a time as any to post a few positive words on behalf of my 3d favorite GOP candidate (he's just concluded his Florida victory speech). I was a strong supporter of Romney vs McLame in 2008, but I've been consistently skeptical of him in 2011-2012. But there is no point in being spiteful, so herewith a few lines of honest credit for Gov. Romney:

1) He avoids mistakes, or "beating himself." This has really been the heart of his success this go-round, as one GOP opponent after another has shot themselves in the foot, or both feet, and crippled their own campaigns. It is interesting to note that Gingrich's one big victory in South Carolina was achieved only after Mitt himself made a damaging tactical blunder, in dithering over his tax returns. If he had avoided that eminently predictable problem, it is conceivable that Mitt could have won in SC, too.

2) His campaign is flexible, in a good way. After South Carolina, Romney's team took a hard, fast look at their position, and adjusted with a series of new tactics and fast decisions that led to the thumping Florida victory. In the meantime, my man Newt has been mired in a sour dialectic divided between complaining about Romney's dishonesty and complaining about his big advertising spending. This was a winning approach?

3) Mitt Romney obviously is humble enough to prepare for his big moments. As Ace of Spades commented sometime ago, we've been imbued for decades with a kind of "Stripes" mythology, whereby some raw but talented people goof off for a semester, but pull an all-nighter before the big test and dramatically ace it. Well, as we all know there is no tooth fairy, and there is no substitute for (nor excuse for lack of) preparation. Quite apart from his smooth, almost error-free debate performances, Mr. Romney has spent the better part of 4 years PREPARING for these primaries by recruiting and convincing supporters, hiring reliable campaign staff, and cultivating right-leaning journalists in the legacy and internet media. Looking at the 2 Florida debates, it was apparent that Gov. Romney had prepared thoroughly, while Speaker Gingrich was winging it.

4) Related to #3, Mr. Romney is also humble enough to be disciplined. He is excellent at staying on-message, and he does not take the bait to get distracted into unproductive or damaging dialogues. Discipline is perhaps the pre-eminent quality for a successful campaign, and it has been Newt's biggest weakness thus far. Should Romney win the nomination, I foresee a scenario wherein a panicking Obama leaps from failing issue to failing issue, while a disciplined Romney presses his advantage, much as George Bush I whipped Dukakis.

5) Mr. Romney has surrounded himself with competent staff. How can it be that a serious presidential candidate should be blocked from a state ballot because he collected too few valid signatures? Are you kidding me? How can you buy ad time and then remove the ad because your opponent complains? As Casey Stengel asked, "Can't anybody here play this game?" Mr. Romney's people have got him onto all the ballots, produced effective ads and purchased the airtime to deploy them, got him to his appearances and appointments on time, and helped him to avoid any truly self-damaging statements. It's so simple and obvious, and easy to take for granted, but can we say the same for his rivals' staff?

6) Mr. Romney has remained, personally, a happy warrior, while his surrogates and PAC people have carried out the real dirty work of "negative campaigning," innuendo and brazen lying. (Yes, claiming Newt Gingrich was anything but a leading Reaganite of the highest order is obviously a brazen lie). Speaker Gingrich has complained about this, but guess what? That is classical political strategy, "Politics 202," and why the heck Newt was purportedly surprised by it (and failed to resort to it himself) is beyond me. Newt the Happy Warrior is such a superior campaigner to Newt the Complainer that he needs to cling to the positive personal approach for dear life...but let his surrogates napalm Mr. Romney to a crisp.

These are the larger strengths that Gov. Romney has shown. Add to them the gorgeous family, his own good looks and cheery demeanor, personal wealth, and golden fundraising touch, and campaigner Romney might just cruise to a victory over the liberal Democrat this year.

Just like George Bush I did in 1988. Let's just hope a President Romney has no desire to emulate that smug, clueless Presidency, though.

The same week Mitt Romney emphasizes his great respect for the Islamic faith and says he has never seen any evidence of American Muslims threatening our country, Newt Gingrich just wipes the floor with him on the issue of "Palestinian" legitimacy. Newt was absolutely 110% correct on the facts and the history, but Romney's patently weak, timid approach clearly demonstrated why he is NOT the man to lead our country. Here are Newt's key words, from 4:44 in the vid:

"This is a propaganda war, in which our side refuses to engage, and we refuse to tell the truth whiie the other side lies, and you’re not going to win in the long run if you’re afraid to stand firm and stand for the truth."

Maahh friends, a long time ago we elected a President whose enemies declared that he had a war-against-Russia agenda, and it was important that he not rock the boat and start a thermonuclear war. They said by merely questioning the legitimacy of the neo-Stalinist regime he was hurling us into the apocalypse. Now we know that, in private, when he was asked about his view of the Cold War, he said: "We win, they lose."

Go back and look at Newt's quote there. Did any other candidate jump up and agree that we are in a propaganda war in which our side refuses to engage? Can anyone deny it? But only Newt had the courage to stand for the truth, even Rick Santorum went all nervous-Nellie on us.

People, allow me to state the obvious: You cannot win a war if you don't realize you are in one. You cannot win a war by refusing to engage the enemy. And you cannot win a war if you're afraid to stand for the truth.

Period.

Well done, Mr. Speaker. And to think that some bloggers wrote you out of the race for that kissy-face with Al Sharpton and Arne Duncan!

Well, it's been an exciting and sad five weeks. I've been spending a lot of time over at the AceofSpades site, defending my man, Herman Cain, but in the end a subtle but important character flaw caught up with him. Here are a few posts I made, on 11/14, 11/17, and 11/28 at AoS, and another on TheOtherMcCain on 12/3, that illustrate what I think caused his campaign to fail:

As a Cain supporter since May, this is disappointing to see. I knew the new guy was rough, but over six months, you need to smooth over those rough edges. But it seems he isn't doing it. It's like a great athlete coming to a sport late, you make allowances for him to work his athleticism into the sport, but at some point he either gets it or he doesn't. Michael Jordan ultimately never made it in baseball, did he?

After 29 years of being the 2d biggest Newt fan on earth (2d only to Newt himself), I gave up on the guy back in May due to his Ryan backstab. But is Cain now stabbing Gov. Walker? Uggghhhh.

Cain's campaign actually was a textbook unorthodox campaign, but they needed to develop/grow once they actually made it into the top tier (which was a huge and amazing accomplishment for them). It seems that the limiting factor on their development since then (mid-Sept.) has been...THE CANDIDATE HIMSELF, unfortunately.

And I really question Newt, too. Does he have any ground game? Does he inspire any loyalty from any person other than his [current] wife? Can he avoid torching himself just as he gains traction now? I just don't know. Ugggghhhhh.

One thing I'd strongly urge everyone. Support or oppose the candidates based on your own priorities--NOT based on what you imagine the lamestream media morons and the "independents" will do or not do. That is a fool's game, just ask the McLame supporters from 2008. The most "out of the mainstream" candidate we've ever run ended up patenting the over-the-aisle recruiting--remember those "Reagan Democrats?!" And first 44, then 49 states.

Actually, I've never been a bitter-clinger for Herman Cain. If he's way down, and a more conservative candidate has a shot, I'd of course support the other conservative vs. Romney. It's kind of a fancy formula: The Other Conservative must be at least 5 points above Cain, and within at least 5 points of Romney (or above him). Then I'll vote strategically. Of course.

Herman Cain has confirmed a suspicion I've had since the sex allegations broke.

It's good to be confident. It's bad to be over-confident or...proud?

At the time of those sex allegations, the guy immediately charged out and answered the questions without any preparation. There is something admirable about this (esp. if you think he was innocent), but there was also something very questionable: even the smartest, most innocent, well-informed person can be confused by hostile and unfair questions, and therefore look...BAD. As he did, early that week.

He was TOO confident in his own abilities, and too naive that his own innocence wd speak for itself. That is a dangerous fault. I don't want to call it arrogance or pride, but maybe...overweening cockiness?

Anyway, that tendency was on even more gruesome display in the Milwaukee interview. He either needed to be prepared (incl. some rest) or DON'T DO THE EFFING INTERVIEW. This is NOT rocket science, in politics, business, sports, court, or any other field. Period.

He's been campaigning seriously for 6+ months. He's needed to improve his command of the issues over that time--but he has not, at least so's it's noticeable.

When you're a newcomer, you DO need to prove yourself vs. the establishment. He's had a golden opportunity the past 6 weeks, with the spotlight on him--but he has failed that test. You just can't repeatedly flub basic questions with dare I say stuttering answers, period. If we need to absorb so many gaffes, we might as well go with someone with executive experience and history fighting liberals while in office.

Short of repeated performances that rival Newt Gingrich in knowledge, then I don't see any reason for him to continue. And I don't see that happening.

It's a real shame, because he has many gifts, and such a beautiful family, but we can't duck reality. Oh, and I never doubted his commitment to conservative principles, even if he might have never written a NRO essay about them. And SURELY there's an easier, less humiliating way to sell a few books, right? Do you people seriously think THAT'S why he's gone thru this? A millionaire 65-year-old cancer survivor? To sell some books?

No, he WANTED to be President. He thought he had the tools. He actually ran an amazingly successful campaign, and got "to be a position to win," as the late great Jim Valvano put it. But in the end, it was the candidate himself, and his over-confidence, that were the limiting factors. It hurts like hell to admit it, but I have to, after being as fair and patient with Herman Cain as I'd be with any candidate that ran as a conservative.

He cd make a great Sec of Commerce, tho!

The Milwaukee interview was the last straw for this Cainiac. All along (since May for me), I just wanted the guy to get a real shot at making his case, he actually had his shot, but he just hasn't developed as a new guy needs to develop. "Weighed in the balance and found wanting."

Since then, I'm split about 40/30/30, Perry/Newt/Bachmann. It just depends who's in the best position to beat Romney when the FL primary comes along.

But all along I presumed Cain was a decent man and husband. This latest claim shd be easy to prove, if it is true. 13 years without a photo/video or receipt is not possible. If it turns out to be just another Demo-smear, where will HC got to get his reputation back? (And will AoS apologize? /sarc off.)

I fear Herman Cain has a problematic lack of humility. It may be arrogance. He has never recognized his shortcomings as a candidate, and therefore refused to address them or minimize them. He is confident, and that is a great and necessary quality for success, but it is hard to avoid the conclusion that he has fallen prey to OVER-confidence, or a higher regard for his own abilities than was warranted.

There were two ways to handle this, each acceptable: one was to carefully control his exposure in public venues and interviews so as to minimize his opportunities for "gaffes," the other was to get him some steady but intensive issues-tutoring so he cd turn weakness into strength:"OMG, that was a fantastic answer to an obscure question, this guy is awesome!" (BTW, Ron Reagan was a sharp and knowledgeable guy, but even his campaign recognized his tendency to shoot from the lip, and always kept careful control over his exposure.)

But, my friends, he has done neither. And it has HURT him, and after ~7 months of hard campaigning, it doesn't look like he will EVER get that he needs (needed) to do this.

The single thread running through all his blowups the past month or so has been his refusal to recognize his own weaknesses or vulnerabilities at the moment, and prudently either address them or minimize them. I sense that, at the end of the day, his (rather noble) instinct is: "Hey, just give me the ball again, fellas, I'm gonna pull this game out of the fire yet again." But when the other side has stolen your playbook and knows exactly what you're gonna do, that just is NOT the best way to win.

FINALLY, AN AFTERTHOUGHT:

It is an interesting reflection on the media stereotype of Republicans that, in the 2 weeks following serial allegations of sexual harassment by this black man against white women, that he enjoyed the best fund raising of his campaign. Those waaaascawy, wacist, Wepubwicans...

Oh, and one tiny, little bizarre tipoff that Herman Cain was not the man for this job. Remember the little one-on-one non-debate he had with Newt on November 5? Someone asked him what was his biggest surprise as a candidate. Cain responded: "The nit-pickiness of the news media!" Huh? Did he really expect them to be fair and reasonable to a conservative, esp. a black conservative?! At least Newt knows in his bones that the Enemy Media is, well...OUR ENEMY. Man, was THAT ever a study in naivete'.

Ya gotta love that dead-on crack about the "so-called Palestinians," heh. And I KNOW there is a Hebrew word for "choke," so I can only imagine his sly grin as he gave THAT answer. From his recent interview w/Israel Hayom:

What is your position on the Obama administration's Middle East policy?

I believe that his lack of a firm stand regarding Israel has emboldened Israel’s enemies, and America's enemies. When I was in Israel in August, I met with the deputy prime minister and he said that this was one of the biggest concerns that they had. Because he threw Israel under the bus with the statement about the 1967 borders. He just threw them under the bus. He threw Prime Minister Netanyahu under the bus prior to his visit to America. In a Cain administration there would be no question in the minds of the world and the American people that we would stand with Israel. No question. It wasn’t the president's right to suggest that they change those borders and I didn’t agree with that. For example, I think that the so-called Palestinian people have this urge for unilateral recognition because they see this president as weak. I haven’t seen all the facts but I think this whole assassination attempt [alleged Iranian plot to assassinate the Saudi ambassador in Washington] was another example of seeing this president as weak, in that regard. So, weakness invites attack and I think that he has projected a sense of weakness.

I would.

What do you think of the Obama administration's handling of Iran and what would you do differently, if anything?

I don’t know if this is going to translate well in your language: Choke. Choke them economically. Here’s what I mean by that and I know that that’s not politically correct to say but here’s the idea: It costs them $70 a barrel to break even on their oil. It costs Saudi Arabia $30. We’re going to develop an energy-independent strategy. We will move toward energy independence in the Cain administration. We’ve got the resources to do it, we need the will, the leadership and we get some of these unnecessary regulations out of the way. We will impact the world price of oil. We get the price of oil down to $70 or below, and the Iranians won’t have enough money to build a nuclear program. They’re going to have to worry about feeding their people instead.

Second thing that we would do is that I would invest in our fleet of aegis-ballistic missile defense systems. We have the biggest fleet with that capability in the world. We need to upgrade it such that the ballistic-missile defense systems' sea base would have the ability to detect threats for a longer period of time; strategically place some of those ships in that part of the world then let the Iranians know that we have that capability stationed there and let them know that if they wanted to attack our friends, attack Israel or the United States, that we won’t hesitate to retaliate.

For the past few weeks, I've had a recurring suspicion that the several gaffes of Herman Cain are in fact "gaffes." As in intentional. Deliberate. Planned.

Allow me to explain.

21 years ago, I watched closely as a complete political neophyte announced his intention to run as governor of Massachusetts. He was John Silber, president of Boston University. Silber was a staunch Reaganite, a native TEXAN, a blunt-spoken anti-activist authoritarian university president, a big-business booster, and a Democrat. And he was running to be nominated by the Massachusetts Democratic Party. What chance, huh?

Well, to make matters "worse," Silber started his campaign with a series of shocking "gaffes." From disparaging gay rights to attacking feminism and peaceniks to questioning why "immigrants from tropical climates" move to the wintry Bay State (of course for it's generous welfare benefits), Silber missed no opportunity to defame the hideous ideology that dominated the Democratic Party of Massachusetts.

Of course the house organ of that hideous ideology, the Boston Glob, responded with off-the-charts venom to these "Silber shockers," as the candidate himself dubbed them. For about 9 months he was lampooned as a joke...until the primary approached...Because Silber was polling about 25% in a 3 way race. Even the NYT noticed in July: "Despite waging an unusual, provocative campaign that has broken many of the rules of politics and offended some women, blacks and the elderly, John R. Silber is running more strongly than expected in the Massachusetts race for governor and could be in position to win the Democratic nomination in September."

The pattern of the "Silber shockers" was firmly established: Silber would make his comment in an interview or debate; the comment would be the focus of attention for 2-5 days; Silber would be righteously questioned and re-questioned about the comment, which he would then repeat in slightly less inflammatory terms, but still defend it; and interested voters would have heard Silber make and repeat his point about 5 times more than if he hadn't made the "gaffe."

But in September he was still down by ~15 points to the front-runner, a career hack named Frank Bellotti, when about a week before the primary, the other establshment candidate, Evelyn Murphy (Dukakis' lt. governor) fell on her sword to "guarantee" the win for Bellotti. "We can't allow even the chance of John Silber winning the nomination." And how did our famous "newspaper of record" report this development? "Ms. Murphy's action therefore appeared likely to deal a further blow to Mr. Silber, a political maverick whose public standing has been slipping in the past few weeks after he made barbed comments that have alienated many voters."

With Murphy out, Bellotti's lead jumped to 23 points in the polls. Those wonderful, wonderful polls. Keep watching those polls, people. The polls are everything, don't you know? How can an old pro like Frank Bellotti blow a 23 point lead in 5 days?

Five days later, Silber beat Bellotti by 10 points, a 33-point swing. The absurdly politically incorrect Reaganite Texan became the nominee for governor of the Massachusetts Democratic Party. And the old grey lady sobbed into her gin-drenched cornflakes: "In a stunning display of voter discontent, John R. Silber, the president of Boston University who peppered his campaign with provocative remarks, scored a major upset tonight over over Francis X. Bellotti, a former State Attorney General in the Democratic primary for governor."

Which is a long way of explaining why my spidey senses are tingling these days when so many people are saying Herman Cain's gaffes are proof his candidacy is doomed. The latest is this extremely unusual--I'll refrain from saying "strange"--ad that just aired during the World Series [embedded above]. OMG, a campaign staffer blowing smoke at the camera?! Can anyone else remember the last TV ad that showed a non-evil character just...smoking...a cigarette? It's just a...SHOCKER!

Mr. Cain is nothing if not a skilled communicator. Yet it seems that, as soon as more eyes than ever are turned on him, that he becomes a fumblemouth. And wasting huge, scarce campaign dollars on a bizarre ad. Even Brit Hume has written him off.

Mr. Cain has come from nowhere, with almost no money, and no political experience, to the top of the polls. Now he's being dismissed as a gaffe machine. But I'm telling you, he's as dumb as a fox.

Nuclear power: There were 36 powerplants planned in this country — and let me add the word "safety;" it must be done with the utmost of safety. But 32 of those have given up and canceled their plans to build, and again, because Government regulations and permits and so forth make it take more than twice as long to build a nuclear plant in the United States as it does to build one in Japan or in Western Europe.

"Let me sort of describe my overall policy.
What I've said is that we would put a cap and trade system in place that is as aggressive, if not more aggressive, than anybody else's out there.
I was the first to call for a 100% auction on the cap and trade system, which means that every unit of carbon or greenhouse gases emitted would be charged to the polluter. That will create a market in which whatever technologies are out there that are being presented, whatever power plants that are being built, that they would have to meet the rigors of that market and the ratcheted down caps that are being placed, imposed every year.
So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can; it's just that it will bankrupt them because they're going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that's being emitted.
That will also generate billions of dollars that we can invest in solar, wind, biodiesel [Ed.: See Solyndra] and other alternative energy approaches.
The only thing I've said with respect to coal, I haven't been some coal booster. What I have said is that for us to take coal off the table as a (sic) ideological matter as opposed to saying if technology allows us to use coal in a clean way, we should pursue it.
So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can.
It's just that it will bankrupt them."

Results? Well...., let's just examine the price per barrel of crude oil during the Reagan and Obama Presidencies:

REAGAN OIL PRICES:

January 1981: $38.00 per barrel.
January 1989: $18.50

Oil Price Change: Price DROPPED by 51%, over 8 years. And the average for the year 1983 (Reagan's 3d year, comparable to 2011 for Obama) was $29/barrel. A drop of 23%.

OBAMA OIL PRICES:

January 2009: $33.07
October 6, 2011: $82.35

Oil Price Change: Price JUMPED by 148% (ONE HUNDRED FORTY-EIGHT PERCENT), in just 2 2/3 years. We can only imagine where it will be in January 2013.

I've had a hard time understanding my unease, perhaps dread, at this 10th anniversary of 9/11. Although our intelligence agencies and military have performed heroically since then, to the point of essentially atomizing AlQaeda and killing Bin Laden, our country...our society...hell, our CIVILIZATION has never been weaker or more compromised versus The Jihad. This conviction was crystallized this morning, as I watched the NYC proceedings begin with the disgraceful Mike Bloomberg. In a healthy society, one that had learned its lessons from 9/11, the Mayor of the main target city would never have even considered accepting a victory mosque at Ground Zero...or if he had, the indignant citizens would have righteously tarred and feathered him, and impeached him.

I guess the main problem we have is that our leadership has dealt tactically with the problem of jihad, as opposed to strategically. And our tactical responses have further been compromised by idiotic alliances and delusions pursued in the Moslem world. I've seen some very smart people today basically cheerleading the fact that AQ is all but gone, as if they consider it irrelevant that The Jihad has gained control of two of the largest Middle East countries in the past 10 years (Turkey and Egypt), PLUS Lebanon, PLUS Gaza, PLUS Tunisia, and is on the verge of seizing oil-rich Libya. If this is victory, I'd hate to see "losing ground."

I was all set to analyze this in some depth, but the phenomenal Caroline Glick has just done such a masterful job on this very topic that there's really no point in trying to add to it. Take it away, Dr. Glick!

Since I began this blog back in 2006, I've been trying to add my small voice to those who think the Jewish people need a new way of looking at this world. Or maybe not a new NEW way, but a very OLD way. "Everything old is new again."

To be crass and crude, I thought (and think) Jews need to stop being afraid of WINNING their conflicts, especially in our unwanted (but unavoidable) encounter with The Jihad. That we need to WANT to win, and we need to PLAN to win, and finally we need to EXECUTE THE PLAN AND WIN.

To make a long story short, I believe that Judaism has a host of great and redeeming qualities and blessings, not just for Jews but for mankind. Since I believe that, I HAVE TO fiercely oppose any ideology that seeks to eliminate Judaism, or render it into a craven, slave-like dhimmified status. (Dhimmitude is not normal, natural, nor dignified for any of us made in God's image.) Such a fate would obviously extinguish or choke off to near-extinction those blessings of Judaism. How would that make the world a better place?

If you doubt Judaism's gifts, consider a few Gentiles in recent history who have befriended the Jewish people: George Washington, Winston Churchill, Konrad Adenauer, Martin Luther King Jr...Now consider those who have attacked the Jews: Adolph Hitler, Iosif Stalin, Saddam Hussein, Ayatollah Khomeini... Whose society better approaches what God wants for us here on earth?

I chose the title of "Odysseus" for this blog because there was a man who was not afraid of winning. Indeed, his entire (legendary) existence was devoted to 2 objectives: winning the war, and returning home to regain his lost homeland. Anyone who is familiar with those Homeric masterpieces knows that there is not a shred of ambivalent consideration in Odysseus's heart: he MUST win, his enemies must be destroyed, and the only question is how best to make the victory as complete and one-sided as possible.

So how to explain why so, SOOOOOOO many Jewish people seem afraid of winning? Or, even worse, who seem so devoted to helping our soulless and transparently demonic enemies to DEFEAT US?! How to explain the mentality that has been beautifully exemplified by Pam Geller's pet-phrase, "Jewicidal?" How did this happen to the Jewish people, who staggered out of the death-camps of Europe to liberate and rebuild our homeland in the teeth of 7 bloodthirsty Arab armies? What is going on here?

My favorite rabbi, the visionary Rabbi Chaim Richman, has produced a new, powerful and brilliant explanation. Interestingly, it hearkens back to an ancient pagan cult, the Babylonian Tammuz, which was adapted by the Greeks for their tragic plays. I cannot do the Rabbi's essay justice here--and why should I, when you can hear the pearl-like words of the man himself--but suffice it to say that, when a peculiar behavior appears over and over in history without any apparent explanation, then you can be sure there is a profound historical reason for that behavior; it is no accident nor anomaly. And to the extent the ingrained behavior is in fact detrimental or self-defeating, the identification of its root cause is a huge step in curing it. A necessary step, in fact.

Rabbi Richman explains that the Jews have positively avoided victory (and redemption, in spiritual terms) because they have been entranced by the romance of tragedy, and loss, and mourning. And their attraction to the Tammuz cult was noted by the Prophet Ezekiel (Chapter 8) as far back as the time of the First Temple.

Suddenly, a lot of staggering questions are answerable:

Why would Jews revive the dying PLO? A desire to mourn.

Why would Jews support Barack Obama? A need for despair.

Why would Israel refuse to rebuild the Holy Temple, the site of which is firmly in her hands? A craving for loss, and weeping.

Thank you, Rabbi Richman, for helping to diagnose a deadly, ancient malady that has surely kept the Jews locked in self-made chains for at least 44 years.

I always hesitate to protest the refereeing at a rigged fight, but seeing the stupendously gross groin kicks and salt-gouged-into-the-eyes moves of the lamestream media since the killings by the Oslo "militant" [heheh, how does it feel, morons?], I guess I must point out the obvious:

The counter-jihad is OF COURSE the peaceful option. We are for peace, and freedom, too, into the bargain. Our enemies have chosen to plan and create a world of perpetual violence and intimidation and horror--much like George Orwell wrote about in 1984, but much worse: "If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face — forever."

Imagine a woman getting lashed in a public square, next to a man getting beheaded, while a mob screams "Death to da Joooooooos!!," while a greasy caliph humps one of his 250 concubines, while his trusted bodyguards plan his assassination--forever.

The counter-jihad rejects this future, the jihad is using every filthy trick in its arsenal--direct violence, bone-chilling intimidation, bribery, and of course lies--to carry it out.

I suppose I could repeat these few words about a thousand times, but there is no need. Either you get it, you understand it, and you agree with it, or you're a lost cause.

Whatta lovely July 4th weekend. The Anti-Jihad blogosphere has been at daggers drawn about a who-said-what-when debate, based on the need/lack of need to purge the English Defence League of anti-Jewish elements...Like the gigantic bulk of those elements aren't already happily working for/with the jihad already.

If anyone should care, I had a clear idea early on who was more sinned against than sinning in this recent unpleasantness, but felt the difference was relatively petty, and therefore neccessitated no real comment. I did put up identical cautionary posts on both AtlasShrugs and GatesofVienna, but they were ignored, in spite of my excellent advice:

A useful, please pardon my French, French expression, which has never got a lot of support in the blogosphere:
"Words are silver, but silence is gold."

Another, this one from Oliver Cromwell: "I beseech you, in the bowels of Christ, think it possible you may be mistaken."

Another, from Boston pol Martin Lomasney: "Never write if you can speak. Never speak if you can nod. Never nod if you can wink."

What is not said need not be explained, or explained away.

A little while later, a correspondent whom I'll call the Atlas Mega Fan (AMF) emailed me to urge me to support her. I think my responses to AMF, with appropriately redacted portions for AMF, will give a fairly good idea of my perspective:

In recent days, the situation in the EDL has drawn a bit of commotion in the blogosphere. The latter of these articles is woefully uninformed, as the concerns raised there have been addressed a year ago, including on this video The John Snowy Shaw Show. Some of these articles are superficial, some are an avalanche of details of questionable relevance. One can pore over these for hours, trying to figure out who did Right and who did Wrong. But quite honestly:

Why waste your time nit-picking when the house is on fire? For as Reagan is often quoted for:

The person who agrees with you 80 percent of the time is a friend and an ally — not a 20 percent traitor.

The bottom line: The English Defence League is the most broadest and most effective anti-Jihad and anti-Sharia movement on this side of the Atlantic Ocean. It has achieved much in a mere two years, and continues to operate in spite of government harassment and systematic slander from the establishment. The EDL deserves emulation – the highest form of flattery - not vilification.

As bad as it is here, in Europa the house truly is on fire. We need to be very careful with our criticisms so as to not give aid & comfort to the enemies.

Then, a little while later:

AMF, last night a poster wrote about "sand niggers" on Pam's blog--I called him on it. It is still there today.

Does that mean Pam condones it? No, nor does it mean AS2K is racist. The Net is an incredibly fluid, uncontrolled place, esp in the big, active sites.

I think both sites over-reacted, and Pam over-reacted without adequate evidence. GoV over-reacted by going public, in a confrontational way. Oh, well, Pam will get over it, she's a big girl with a big site.

I don't have time nor inclination to get outraged over such nits, indeed like firefighters screaming at each other over who overcooked the casserole while the house is burning down. It boggles my mind to see such time/energy put into it.

Then:

AMF: "then, call for a cessation of hostilities."

I thought I VERY clearly did that, from Day 1.

AMF:"... without adequate evidence ... ." [Edited riposte referring to T. Robinson's confirmation of problems in the EDL]

I think her concerns could & shd have been made much less counterproductively than they were by publishing this:

"Now that the person whom I most trusted in the EDL, Roberta Moore, has resigned, as she was increasingly uncomfortable with the neo-fascists that had infiltrated the administration of the group, I too am withdrawing my support from the EDL. I hope that genuine anti-jihadists in Britain will also leave the EDL and work with Roberta on starting a new group that will resist definitively and firmly all attempts to divert it from its mission of fighting against jihad and for human rights."

AMF: "Pam thought the situation amenable, capable of being rectified, so, she addressed the issue. Tommy Robinson replied, substantiating her concerns."

Again, a grossly counterproductive way of "addressing the issue." How hard wd a private inquiring email to TR have been? As it is, her friends at LGF (and more important media) have a lovely idiotic set of statements to throw at anyone who cares to defend the EDL in the future.

Pam has a tendency to shoot from the lip, as they said about Reagan, she even publicly accused me of denying the Armenian genocide [!!]. Nobody's perfect. But because she has such a large, influential blog, I think she needs to think twice, nay, thrice before calling on people to abandon one of the few active CJ orgs across the pond. Ned May didn't make her do that.

I'd like to elaborate a bit here on my critique of GoV and the petition. First, there is absolutely no doubt they had ample cause for such a response--Pam's knee-jerk call for good people to leave the EDL was off-the-charts irresponsible. But anyone who seeks to actually come to an acceptable accommodation with a woman with a strong personality surely knows that the LAST way to get that result is to "INSIST on an APOLOGY." It doesn't matter whether an apology was merited or reasonable--women with strong personalities just do not function that way, even the more so when they are clearly in the wrong! (As Pamela Geller was in this case.) I can hardly imagine that the petitioners were innocently unaware of that apology poison-pill. And surely Pam's strong support of the European resistance over the years was worth a little forebearance--she should have been given the benefit of the doubt. Wouldn't "a prompt correction" have sufficed?

This little bottom-feeding blog has been overwhelmingly supportive of Pamela Geller since 2007--in fact, I wrote what was probably the single most complimentary serious analysis ever of her efforts here. But on those rare occasions when I disagreed with her (for example, I've defended Zuhdi Jasser, and Rifka Bary's attorneys, when Pam attacked them), she indeed resorted to ad hominem attacks that were unworthy of her and her talent. She did the same thing to GoV last year. And now look at the comments she is making about people like Fjordman, Tundra Tabloids, Diana West, and the eeeeeevil Baron at GoV:

**He has posted scurrilous attacks on me and Robert Spencer...

There’s a great movie from 1985, “Brazil,” by Terry Gilliam. In a particularly memorable scene, the hero is sitting there in a ritzy restaurant with his absurdly-narcissistic mom and her absurdly-narcissistic friends, when a bomb goes off. All of the patrons who aren’t mortally wounded put on a brave face, go back to their soufflés and canapés and snobby talk, and the orchestra strikes up a cheerful tune.

It may be normality, interrupted by barbarism…Or is it barbarism, interrupted by normality? And how do those patrons actually feel when the bombs go off?

Now I know. Sort of.

…So there I am, waiting in the checkout line of Marshall’s, using my amaaazing new 4G HTC Inspire phone, checking out my Web homie AceofSpades—chillin’ on-line while in-line, so to speak—when a bomb goes off.

Start with a baseline foreign policy dedicated to harming American interests.

Throw in a generally competent, well-equipped, but excessively timid and politicized military.

Add a half-cup passive-destructive political rival in charge of foreign policy.

Season with a tablespoon of incompetent-to-da-bone foreign intelligence apparatus.

And stir in a cup each of concentrated I-walk-on-water, don’t confuse me with the facts hubris; genuine terror of recent and future political defeats; and inbred solicitude to the grievances of Sunni potentates.

And what do you have?

VOILA! An utterly amoral realpolitik that ruthlessly drives en entire small Muslim nation to bludgeon and massacre itself in what I like to call “the Muslim meatgrinder.” In other words, a smashing and self-sustaining voreign bolizy success story!

It’s really uncanny, it’s a lot like the Simpson’s episode where Mr. Burns learned that he had every disease known to medicine…but because he had so many of them, they perfectly balanced out each other inside his physiology, so he remained apparently “healthy.” (See clip here). Or it’s like John McLaughlin used to say: Obama has “swerved into success!”

For once I can stand tall and send a big THANK YOU to our alien president for an unqualified policy success.

Of course, in the good old days, when US politics stopped at the water’s edge, both Republican and Democrat Presidents could rely on their opponents to keep supporting them so long as our foreign enemies were being crushed. But once the Left turned in favor of the deranged Asiatic butcher Ho Chi Minh over the simple corrupt Texas hack LBJ, we’ve been on a nasty one-way ratchet whereby Republicans tried to stop Democrat Presidents from giving away the country, and Democrats tried to force Republican Presidents to give away the country.

Therefore, if even a Kissinger had created a similar Libyan policy, the Left would be jumping to sabotage it, and no doubt in weeks it would be abandoned.

Many of my good brethren have recently posted about Gadhafi’s troops being beheaded by rebel mobs, with the implication that this proves we should not oppose Gadhafi. Do we really give a rat’s @ss about those thugs? Do we really give a rat’s @ss if Gadhafi saturates rebel areas with cluster bombs? I sure don’t. The only thing we need to worry about is: 1) make sure the bloodshed lasts as long and is widespread as possible; 2) make sure another wave of Islamic refugees doesn't use this as an opportunity to invade Europa; and 3) make sure that the ultimate winner is the least anti-American side. As for Libya’s oil industry…well, both sides know that the oil is their only hope for any future, so there is little chance of it being seriously damaged. Recall that during the 8 years of the Iran-Iraq War, the real price of oil plummeted.

One thing needs to be recalled here: these Islamic regimes that are tottering were the unworthy recipients of unbelievable amounts of transferred technology, money, medicine, food, and technical assistance for the past ~100 years, and now their unsustainablity has become manifest. Had the West not intervened and propped up these regimes and their predecessors for the past century, tens of millions of their subjects (no, NOT "citizens") would have suffered slow and grisly deaths from famine, pestilence, and traditional scorched earth village exterminations. You know how the Muslims (including Gadhafi) have loved to brag that the future belongs to them due to their population growth and larger families? Well, it is only Western technology and medicine that has made that growth possible, and now that it is being slowly cut off, those teeming slums will soon turn into charnel houses. And, sacre bleu, those population growth rates will plummet to historical ranges. As in zero.

Maahhhhh friends, let’s keep a cool head, pass the popcorn, and enjoy this little freakshow, and encourage our Muslim African president to keep assisting his Muslim African friends to keep maiming and killing each other [WARNING: Graphic vid.]

It's funny, the day the Arab League is crying to the UN to enforce a "no-fly zone" over Gaza, the IDF airs this video based on its flights over Gaza, talk about flipping them the bird!

Could it be that the Fakestinian provocations have become so despicable and overt that they have awakened even Bibi and Ehud from their comas? The IDF doesn't usually make a broadcast like this, check that, NEVER MAKES A BROADCAST LIKE THIS unless it is a part of a major strategic operation.

That fearful Last Day...

In honor of the 2d annual International Temple Mount Awareness Day [which has already arrived in Israel] , let us examine an amazing insight from Rabbi Chaim Richman, in explaining the seeming contradiction why the Levites sung the Wednesday "Song of the Day" as the Romans burned down the Holy Temple on Shabbat (Saturday night):

"On this note, it is fitting that we ponder one particular Midrashic teaching that deserves our attention.

According to tradition, the Second Holy Temple, like the first, was destroyed at the conclusion of the Shabbat — on Saturday night. Both Josephus and the Midrashic writings describe how even though the flames of destruction raged all around, and the blood of the slain flowed through the Temple, the priests nevertheless continued to serve atop the altar, and the Levites did not cease to sing, right up until the very end.

Yet despite the fact that the actual destruction of the Holy Temple took place on a Saturday night, the Midrash records that at those moments the Levites sang the song for Wednesday— “O L-rd G-d, to whom vengeance belongs; O G-d, to whom vengeance belongs, shine forth!” Why did they not sing the song for that day of the week, which was Saturday?

Now according to the insight from the Zohar which we have quoted above, we can understand that the Levites were addressing their song to the destruction itself, and consoling Israel by reminding her that G-d has sworn vengeance against His enemies. In this context perhaps their song was even meant to “remind” G-d to keep His word, and to “shine forth” at the proper time, to manifest Himself in the garb of Divine vengeance.

But now that we have examined the close relationship between each day of the week and its respective song, perhaps we can shed new light on this perplexing question…based on our own contemporary knowledge, and the wisdom and experience that we have acquired from hindsight in our own times. For although the sages of yore were great and inspired, we in our own generation, are privy to new understanding to which those great men had no access; in short, we have new evidence.

For on that fateful evening of destruction, it is true that the priests and Levites consoled each other and all of Israel with the knowledge that G-d will avenge His honor; perhaps their song summarized the entire epoch. It is certainly possible that they chose to remind the Holy One of His own vow, as well.

But while all of these explanations are acceptable, it is also quite possible that as the Levites stood atop the platform in that place of sublime inspiration and holiness for the last time, all of a moment they received the most profound flash of prophetic revelation…

And they prophesied, seeing with perfect clarity of vision, that although the terrible destruction now loomed all around them on this Saturday evening, the continuation of their service would most certainly come about as well. The day would come when the Holy Temple would be rebuilt. Though it may be far off in the distance, it would certainly transpire, for it is a Divine promise…

At that moment they could see that it would truly come to be. The rebuilding would happen, very slowly and in stages, one step at a time. For like the morning dawn, “such is the way of Israel’s redemption. In the beginning, it progresses very slowly…but as it continues, it grows brighter and brighter” (JT Berakhot 1:1).

So too, the Levites perceived that the long process of Israel’s redemption, hinging on the rebuilding of the Holy Temple, would begin again on a Wednesday…thus they sang the song of Wednesday, for they sang not of destruction, or revenge, but of the promise of continuation, renewal and rebirth: They saw that Jerusalem and the Temple Mount would stand desolate for nearly two millennia…but they would be regathered by Israel once again on a Wednesday: Wednesday, June 7th, 1967 was the day they saw, and perhaps this day could be considered the first step towards the rebuilding of the Holy Temple. For this day marked a turning point in Jewish history, and began a new era, which progresses in our own time, and moves towards the great destiny of the Jewish people, to be a light to the nations and a people who walk with G-d in their midst."

Everyone knows that Israel liberated all of Jerusalem in the 1967 Six Day War; but I doubt if anyone knows exactly why, for nearly 44 years (so far), Israel refused to exercise its lawful sovereignty over the single holiest Jewish site, inside its own capital. “It didn’t seem like a good idea at the time,” I guess. But, as we all know, it’s never too late to do the right thing.

One argument that has been offered repeatedly over the years is that, ”If Israel does this now, it will destabilize moderate Arab regimes, and threaten the Camp David Accords.” Well, as we review the wreckage of Western Mideast policy in March 2011—with the Muslim Waqf still being allowed to control the Temple Mount-- that argument is the deadest of dead letters, n’est ce pas?

On the merits, there is a compelling case to rebuild the Holy Temple now. The Waqf has delighted in destroying and trashing (as in: bringing to the town dump) as many artifacts from the original Temples as it could, and pursuing a rogue policy of expanding its two sites—the Dome of the Rock and the Al-Aksa Mosque without regard for the Jewish archeological treasures that overflow Har HaBayit (the Temple Mount). By commencing the rebuilding project now, and ejecting the waqf from the Temple Mount until it is complete, Israel will be able to preserve or salvage those treasures, in keeping with the universally-recognized high standards of its Antiquities Authority, without the absurd distraction of obscurantist-inspired riots to interfere with their work.

Perhaps most important, by making the inalterable decision to rebuild the Temple, Israel will effectively throw the deadly bucket of water onto the Wicked Witch of Islam. Ever since Khomeini returned to Iran in 1979, revanchist Islam has become bolder and bolder in its threats against both Israel, da Joooooooooooos, and the West in general. Indeed, the last time Muslim zealots felt so free to proclaim a coming “momentous massacre” was in the days of Gamal Abdel Nasser. In 1967.

Nasser trafficked in military threats, was crushed on the battlefield, and was a shadow of his former self until he died a few years after. Today’s Islamists traffic in koranic threats and prophecies, and until now not a single major figure has stood up to address and refute their disgusting libels.

But actions speak louder than words. Once the Jewish Temple is rebuilt and consecrated on Mount Moriah in Jerusalem, can you imagine the shock and consternation amongst the Islamists? Instantly, all these odious and lurid koranic sermons against the Jews will be rendered nothing short of ridiculous and laughable; while the faith of the supporters of Israel will be strengthened and vindicated. And will this lead to a more peaceful world?

Well, as a well-known Arabian Muslim said a few years back: “When people see a strong horse and a weak horse, by nature, they will like the strong horse.” What would demonstrate the strength of the Jewish people and their faith more conclusively than the rebuilding of the Temple in Jerusalem?

Just last month, what should the vile octogenarian Yusuf Qaradawi bray out to a roaring crowd of Cairo jihadis? That he plans to pray at the alAksa mosque. Imagine if his dream is thwarted by the presence of the third Holy Temple? It might even provoke an aneurysm in the old demon.

Back in 1980, Ronald Reagan was pilloried by the sophisticates and beautiful morons for asserting that America’s (unsuccessful) effort to save South Vietnam from communism was a “noble cause.” Reagan ignored the catcalls, and crushed an incumbent president-sophisticate. That is a lesson for us as we contemplate how close we are to seeing the rebuilding of the Holy Temple in our days, for what nobler cause could conceivably be found on the face of the earth?

Let's all pray that this effort will eventually grow to become much more than a finger in the eye of Satan, something much more decisive:

In the hours and days following the murder of the Fogel family in Itamar, Rabbi Richman posted several breaking news items about it on his Facebook page. Yesterday he broadcast an exceptionally insightful and poignant episode of his weekly “Temple Talk” show, on Israel National Radio. yesterday. Commenting to his distinguished co-host, Yitzchak Reuven at 36:14 of the broadcast, Rabbi Richman noted:

In trying to respond to the latest "Palestinian" atrocity in Israel, I couldn't help but be reminded of soooooooo many similar outrages these people have committed in recent years. These are not errant bombs or bystanders killed by shrapnel that had hit its target...these utterly innocent victims WERE the targets. As are all da Jooooooooos living in Israel.

I've gathered here just a few of these long-ago...maybe not so long-ago crimes, with the emphasis on children, but I had to recall the murder of Erez Levanon: surely this diabolical knife assault on a single Jew praying alone in the forest has to rank up there with the proudest and most emblematic moments of the "Palestinian" national cause. And Rabbi Lazer Brody had this utterly amazing insight on this martyrdom, almost exactly four years ago.

Are you 110% sick of and fed up with people who have hated and slammed America their whole lives lecturing to people who have loved America their whole lives that we "need to watch out how we criticize the President"? I know I am. With that in mind, a few words on "hate" from one of the great men of the last century, Menachem Begin, from the introduction to his stirring 1952 memoir, "The Revolt":

“It is only natural, therefore, that many English readers will ask [about me, “Terrorist Number One”] quite sincerely: What can such a man have to tell us; what message can come from him except a message of hate?

Let us try, without fear, favour, or prejudice, to understand the meaning of the awful word "hate" in this connection. Let's call in the UN, too, so they can put the halal stamp on the so-called "Kotel!" (as the United Nothings recently did with the Tomb of Rachel, uhhhhh, pardon me, the "Bilal bin Rabbah Mosque.")

Iran Ends Athlete's Career for Standing Next to Israeli

(Israelnationalnews.com) An Iranian athlete forced to stand next to Israel’s champion last month during the World Masters Weightlifting Championships in Poland has now forfeited his career, as has the head of his delegation.

The Iranian champion, Hossein Khodadadi, was the target of withering criticism from his own government authorities following the award ceremony for those in the 105 kilogram category for ages 35 to 39.

Khodadadi took his place as a silver medalist on the medals podium prior to the announcement that Israeli medalist Sergio Britva had won the gold. It was the first time since the 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iran that an Iranian athlete had appeared beside an Israeli in an official championship.

The Iranian weightlifter said the team was not able to remove its flag from the hall, and that had he not attended the ceremony, the team would have been forced to return all the medals they had won on previous days. Furthermore, Iran would have been disqualified from future competitions.

To compensate, Khodadadi appeared in unofficial attire, and he declined to shake Britva’s hand when he extended it to his fellow athlete on the podium. Nevertheless, he stood respectfully during the playing of Israel’s national anthem, HaTikva.

According to numerous Iranian media reports, both Khodadadi and Mir Rasool Raisi, head of the Iranian Delegation’s Weightlifting Team have paid a high price for their professionalism, having subsequently been banned by the Iranian government from all sport activities for life.

The ban was announced by Jalal Yahya-Zadeh, head of the Physical Education Committee for Youth Committee.

Yahya-Zadeh told Iranian media, “The fact that an Iranian weightlifting veteran has competed against an Israeli during the worldwide competitions and has stood beside him during the distribution of medals is unjustifiable. Unfortunately, those who supposedly had the primary responsibility in this regard did not see any problem in this matter, however, and did not see it fit to be distributed within the public, which itself is an obvious mistake on their end.”

Raisi allegedly said in prior remarks that all photos and CDs of the event had been destroyed by the Iranian expeditionary team, which apparently did not expect publicity of the incident to get out.

The committee said the Cultural Commissioners had been informed and the president had been alerted to the matter. It was not clear whether there would be further government retribution against the two professional athletes.

Nigeria's secret service said on Tuesday it had intercepted 13 containers of weapons from Iran in what Israeli defense sources believe may be part of a new smuggling route from Iran to Hamas in Gaza.

Rocket launchers, grenades and other explosives camouflaged as building material were seized in the Nigerian port of Lagos after being unloaded from an Iranian ship.

Nigerian media reports said the ship, which came from Iran, docked in Lagos' port for a few hours only, unloaded 13 containers and sailed on.

The bill of lading said the shipment consisted of building materials, Nigerian State Security Service spokeswoman Marilyn Ogar said.

"On opening the first container, the service operatives discovered rocket launchers, grenades and other explosives," Ogar said, adding the weapons were concealed among crates of floor tiles.

The SSS had received intelligence ahead of time about the intention to smuggle weapons in containers via Lagos and was prepared for it, reports said.

Nigerian National Security Adviser Andrew Owoye Azazi declined to say what ship carried the weapons into the port. He said the federal government would destroy the weapons.

According to the Nigerian media, the clearing agent in charge of unloading the containers from the ship offered to bribe the Nigerian customs officers to transfer the containers to an off-dock terminal, where they could be screened outside the port. The customs officials alerted the security services, who ordered the containers opened.

Israel and Nigeria maintain security, trade and diplomatic relations. About a year ago Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman visited Nigeria, accompanied by Nitzan Nuriel, director of the Counter-Terrorism Bureau.

A Foreign Ministry source said the Israeli Embassy in Nigeria was conducting talks with the SSS and the Nigerian foreign ministry in an attempt to find out more about the weapons and the investigation into the affair.

A senior defense source said preliminary information suggests the weapons' seizure has exposed a possible new arms smuggling route from Iran to Hamas, via Africa. On April 15, 2009, Pamela Geller, the founder of the AtlasShrugs2000 website, appeared on Fox's “The Redeye” show with Greg Gutfelt, at 2 AM. She was opposite Alison Rosen and Bill Schulz. They discussed such issues as “Does Twitter make you immoral?” and “Do children lead to happiness?”

On November 7, 2009, Ms. Geller spoke in front of the Collin County Conservative Republicans, in McKinney Texas. On April 13, 2010, she began a campaign of bus and taxi ads in several cities offering safe-haven and support to frightened souls seeking to leave Islam. On June 7, she led and organized a rally with some 5,000 attendees in New York in protest of the mosque at Ground Zero. On July 27, 2010, her book, “The Post-American Presidency, was released, to wide acclaim, except from the far left. On September 11, 2010, she led another New York rally she had organized in protest against the Ground Zero Mosque, which drew at least 30,000 people. And just 2 Sundays ago, the New York Times ran a 3752-word article about Ms. Geller, along with 22 color photos, plus a supplemental 2871-word interview.

Ms. Geller’s achievements can best be understood by the ineluctable dynamic of the lamestream, errr, mainstream media and its fellow-travelers in leftist politics. For something close to 40 years, these people have maintained a closed system of self-dealing, self-promotion, self-protection and self-perpetuation, and they have prided themselves on their success on keeping it practically hermetically sealed. Their system has only one weakness: the unpredictability of America’s voters.

I’ll never forget how they smirked, giggled, and laaaaaaaaauuuuuuughed for 16 solid years as an incredibly knowledgeable, dynamic, and talented GOP congressman from Georgia openly stated his intent to become Speaker of the House. As Gingrich wounded, humiliated, and ousted one Dem honcho after another—Tip O’Neill; Mario Cuomo; Jim Wright—the lamestream media continued to pretend he was just a hyperactive bomb-thrower, a marginal political lunatic whom, as late as October 1990, they expected to be ousted by a RINO challenger put up by the “responsible adults” in the Bush White House. Newt, you see, didn’t see the mature wisdom in Pres. H.W. Bush’s decision to blatantly break his sole “read-my-lips” campaign promise, and said so without fear.

Well, you know, one thing the establishment has no patience for is people without fear. (Keep that in mind when you observe Ms. Geller, too.) But, as we all know, Newt wasn’t ousted in 1990…And just 4 years later he rolled the most devastating political tsunami in modern history across Washington (while war-hero H.W. Bush had been ignominiously retired to Maine by the Arkansas draft-dodger.) So Newt was given full props for his far-sighted strategy and determination, right?

Of course not. The Leftist ruling class of our country resembles nothing so much as a dinner table of snobby royals and socialites who see themselves entitled unto perpetuity with the authority to tell the little people outside the banquet hall how to live their lives (oh, and tax those mindless proles at any rate they see fit, it’s for their own good, dammit). At this banquet table the beautiful people discuss how they will exercise their rule and their plans for the future, but perhaps most important they boost each other to ensure that their happy little clique keeps everyone there at the table friendly, loyal, and reliable.

Ohhhhh, but those pesky elections. Remember Newt? How can you have a table of elites without a Speaker of the House? But Newt wasn’t just a successor to Tom Foley (who of course lost HIS chair). Newt was an ideological opposite, an indigestible, hostile, and alien presence. How could they just seat him and keep the banquet pleasant? No, they had to create a buffer space around him, which means at least a couple OTHER SEATS MUST BE VACATED. Oh, dear, some good and loyal banqueteers had to be asked to leave. How unpleasant. But we can’t have the banquet degenerate into a heated argument, can we? Especially if we are arguing with a former college professor who’s just obliterated 2 Speakers, Jim Wright and Tom Foley?

Hence the deep, deeeeeep psychic depression in 1994-95 as the elites decided who would take the hit. They basically settled on (ooohhhh, the pain)… Hillary Clinton, and her loyalists (remember Marian Wright Edelman? I do.) This was sad, but logical: hadn’t it been Hillary’s now-clear-in-retrospect bumbling failure in her health care plan that had led to the Newt disaster? Out went Hillary, not to be seen again until she had re-invented herself as a wronged-but-loyal wife and “moderate pro-Israel Democrat” to run for Senate in 2000. And slid into Sen. Moynihan’s seat. “Welcome back, Hillary, we finally got rid of Newt!”

Which brings us to Pamela Geller. She hasn’t been elected to anything, but she has all but broken through the door to the banquet hall through sheer force of intellectual argument, stunning energy, and hard-earned internet presence. Oh, and the staggering cluelessness of every single guest at the table: not one of them, to include the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, saw any need for ideological adjustment even after a jihadist major in the US Army culminated a loving (and officially approved!) e-mail correspondence with a notorious al-Qaeda agent in Yemen by gunning down 43 of his comrades as he screamed out “allaaahakbar.” No, what was most important in the wake of the atrocity was that there be no “backlash” against Muslims in the Army, and that the Army’s diversity not become a casualty, according to General Casey.

Good grief.

The reason this little blogress has moved from strength to strength the past year and a half is that these elites have been guilty of such acts of malfeasance and nonfeasance that a truly healthy society would have long ago tarred and feathered them (at least), demanded honorable suicide, or simply shot them for treason (which is what Maj. Hassan deserved as soon as he sent his first e-mail to Awlaki). But these people continue to pretend that the ideas of Pamela Geller, and those of her utterly normal and logical comrades like Robert Spencer, Frank Gaffney, Bat Ye’or, Sue Myrick, Andrew Breitbart and David Gaubatz are the problem. Funny, I haven’t noticed any of them even try to incinerate a synagogue, or blow up a plane full of civilians, or speed a car into a crowd of pedestrians, or roll a grenade into a commanding officer’s tent, or saw the head off an innocent hostage on internet TV, or murder a too-independent daughter, sister or wife, all the while screaming “allaaaaahakbar.”

As with Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, Glenn Beck, and many other hated banquet-crashers, Ms. Geller’s “shocking” success is a direct result of the total failures of our media, intellectual and political elites. Because reality has so thoroughly obliterated their smug ideological constructs, these “unqualified” commentators continue to replace them. And will continue to do so.

I hate to break it to the elites, but as is stated in the banquet scene from the Book of Daniel, their days are numbered. Remember the elections? In just a week, a raft of people who are, shall we say, Geller-friendly, are about to be elected to Congress, as well as move up to committee chairmanships. They will have the authority to conduct hearings, subpoena witnesses, confront bureaucrats, and draft legislation. The whole rotten pro-jihadi infrastructure of the news media and Washington is about to be smashed.

And if they thought Newt caused trouble at the banquet table, they ain’t seen nothing yet, as an awakened America finally rises to ideologically crush 21st century jihadism. The New York Times has managed a dim, fearful idea of this future…hence their laughably wrong-headed and incompetent attempt to smear Ms. Geller on October 10. The Times has become so in-bred and genetically feeble they can’t even do a patented-by-them hit-piece right any more. Look at all those great photos! If you read enough stories about Arab mobs attempting to lynch Jews in Israel, you notice a few common themes:

1--Use of very young children (or women) to freeze the "Yahud" target;
2--A team of older killers who step forward when the kids have completed their task;
3--Redundant camerawork to ensure that an anti-Jewish narrative can be fabricated from the incident, no matter what actually happened.

Considering this history, we can only imagine the horrific scene that would have ensued had David Be'eri (who was driving with his young son in the car with him) not STEPPED ON THE GAS and unhesitatingly knocked aside the little soulless human sandbag who was attempting to hurl a rock through his windshield from 5 feet away. Note carefully the details of this episode:

1--At .03, a friendly chat with a local driver (indicating neighborhood support for and knowledge of the planned lynching). Also, you can count no less than 6 pre-teen human sandbags, most wearing designer jeans. (Didn't the Khmer Rouge specialize in exploiting children as killers?)
2--Five of the kids run up the street directly at the honking car (.08-.10). But the car doesn't stop, so the murderous plan is disrupted.
3--Two OLDER "Asian youths" move in to hurl more rocks from closer to the car. (.15-.17)
4--At least five adults (not including the cameraman for this video) holding notably sophisticated, expensive cameras position themselves to get various better angles (.13-.21). These people are almost surely with the Palestinian Authority, not alJazeera.
5--The entire rear window of Mr. Be'eri's car is smashed out (.22-.25).
6--A team of older people who seem to be in charge take it upon themselves to bundle the little cretin into a van--notice his hands on the door (.37-.45) as they put him in. Does it look like he wants to get rescued?

Keep this failed Pallywood scene in mind as you read or watch the monotonous dirge of stories from lamestream media morons denouncing the arrogant-brutal-racist-insensitive-violent-provocative behavior of "extremist Jewish settlers" towards their peaceful Arab neighbors. Also, never forget that death by stoning ("lapidation") is an ancient Arab custom that is still popular to this day.

Today, the great Pamela Geller of AtlasShrugs wrote a long explanation of why she has agreed to appear on many network interviews the last few months. She needn’t have bothered. She and her comrades (and I like to think of myself here at JO as a humble little spear-carrier in my own right!) have absolutely mopped the floor with the forces of jihad, open and stealth, the past year.

Pamela, sometimes in the heat of what Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn vividly described as "an encounter battle," we tend to lose track of our position and progress, and whether we are gaining, or losing. With a motley crew of FL coat-holders and clueless national figures (Et tu, Michael Reagan?) united to drag him across the finish line, Mr. McCollum was stymied by a man who actually earned money in the private sector for his entire adult life, and by voters who didn't buy the preposterous idea that Bill "I was against the AZ immigration law before I was for it" McCollum, a man whose only job "outside" of government was as a lobbyist, was a principled conservative.

The fact is, with the Scott victory, Florida is approaching a "perfect storm" favoring the GOP in November. Rifqa's lawyers were repeatedly and viciously attacked in the past year by well-meaning Net kibbitzers who should have known better and should have acted like responsible adults. BARTOW | After stabbing his roommate to death, Mauricio Mendez Lopez raised a plastic cup filled partially with the victim's blood and drank it, according to an eyewitness.

"He had a cup in his hand," Mariella Mendez, who lived with the two men, told a Bay News 9 interpreter Tuesday. "He told me, 'That dog is dead now and his life belongs to me.' "

Lopez "raised the glass in the air and said aloud, '...this is my secret,' and laughed as he ran away from the residence," according to a Bartow police report.

Lopez, who remains at large, is accused of killing 32-year-old Macario Cruz about 9:30 p.m. Sunday in the house they shared at 1055 Martin Luther King Blvd. in Bartow.

Bartow police say the fatal confrontation stemmed from a love triangle where Cruz was in a relationship with Mariella Mendez, who also lives in the home with her children. She is the sister of Cruz's wife, who lives in Mexico.

Lopez, the uncle of the two women, didn't approve of the relationship. Reports say he had warned the two July 24 that he would tell Cruz's wife and Mendez's father if the affair wasn't ended.

On that same day, Lopez struck Cruz in the face with a 15-pound hand weight, then chased Cruz and Mendez from the home with a knife, police reports said.

Four days later, Lopez told Mendez he was going to kill her and Cruz in the next 15 days if they refused to end the relationship, police said.

There was no more contact with Lopez until Sunday.

Mendez told police that while she was outside she heard Lopez turn music on in his bedroom very loud.

Suddenly, Mendez said, Lopez forced his bedroom window open and squeezed through it with a large knife in his hand, lurching toward Cruz's 22-year-old brother, Juan Cruz, saying he was going to kill him.

While the younger Cruz was able to escape, he was cut by Lopez in his lower back.

That's when Lopez went into the house and Mendez heard her children scream, reports said.

"He closed the door in front," Mendez said. "I tried to go in, but I couldn't. All I heard was the children screaming, 'Please don't kill him. Uncle, please let him live. Don't kill Macario.' "

When Lopez came out of the home, he placed a knife blade to Mendez's throat and demanded her cell phone.

Fearing for her life, she gave it to him.

Before he left, Lopez got the plastic cup and scooped up blood from the floor, Bartow police said.

"In Mexico, they say that the blood he drank was so he could evade law enforcement," Mendez said. "He kept saying that his life belonged to him and that's why he had to drink it. To me, it's as if the devil was working him

A Mexican woman, who asked her name be withheld because of the nature of the event, said the ritual is known to criminal underworld elements in Mexico, especially among drug dealers.

"They do that in order to get strength," the woman said. "It's a scary thought that someone would do that. But it is out there."

All the while, those filthy Dhimms have been secretly stashing away phony "voters" by the millions onto the state rolls, in anticipation of blunting the GOP in 2010, and permanently marginalizing it in 2012.

I fear they will be successful. And have no doubt: if they are, our country is finished.

The great historians teach us that the lifespan of even the greatest republics is about 200 years. Although our country is 234 years old today, our Republic is more accurately 221 years.

Let me ask you a question: what portion of American high-school graduates below the age of 40 can accurately tell you what a "republic" is on this July 4th? 10%? 20?

And not to go all Biblical here, but there is a very famous line from Genesis 12, referring to Israel: "I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse." Saito relents, but only in order to ensure a critical work quota from the prisoners, so the great railway line can be built across the River Kwai, and thus help the Japs to win the war.

Accordingly, Nicholson becomes a taskmaster on behalf of the construction, even reproaching his men when they try to shirk, and acquiring a sense of pride in this Japanese military project. Unbeknownst to him, the Brits prepare a commando mission to blow up the bridge. As the commando mission strikes, Nicholson's pride leads him to defend the bridge, until...until... until 1:19 of this clip:

**The REAL oil experts--those whose livelihood depends on PRODUCING OIL AT COMMERCIALLY VIABLE PRICES--sure as hell haven't given up on finding oil here on the good old North American landmass. "'It's a true game-changer,' said Jim Volker, chairman and CEO of Whiting Petroleum Corp. a Bakken oil producer. 'We still think there's a significant amount of oil reserves in the United States left to be discovered.'" And I LOVE this quote from Harold Hamm, chairman of Continental Resources: "Most people felt like they could kind of write off the oil industry in the U.S., and that's just a long way from the truth. The fact of the matter is that a lot of people quit looking for oil."

**Those bad old greedy oil companies have taken the time to build their own rail-line to transport the shale oil. Isn't this what we call the "multiplier effect" of private industry growth?

**Those bad old greedy oil companies have within a few short years developed new production techniques that have converted essentially worthless rocks to valuable engines of petro-industry growth...even as oil prices have slumped from $80/barrel to $50/barrel.

**At $78/barrel, North Dakota's oil production will be worth $6.24 billion, with a B, per year. Not bad for a state with less than 1 million people.

**Mark Papa, the chairman of EOG Resources, almost casually describes why his company decided to risk "$20 to $40 million" after a string of early failures: "The first three or four wells, it was not clear that there would be a viable economic solution. But we just felt like, well, it's worth investing $20 to $40 million in this because if it works there's a huge upside." IOW: the promise of POTENTIAL huge profits DOES encourage expensive investment, including LABOR.

**The sheer technological advances spun off from this aggressive oil exploration have made it profitable to extract Bakken oil when prices are above $50/barrel, when just a couple of years ago it required $80/barrel, and shortened the time to drill a well from 56 days to 24. Plus these same advances promise to increase production in other parts of the world. "Marathon Oil Corp. hopes to use what they learn in North Dakota to produce oil and gas overseas. 'It's been a great laboratory for us," said Dave Roberts, who heads exploration and production for Marathon.'"

State Is Riding High as Firms Develop Better Ways to Tap Huge Bakken Shale Deposit, Raising Hopes for U.S. Production

KILLDEER, N.D.—A massive oil reserve buried two miles underground has put North Dakota at the center of a revolution in the U.S. oil industry, a shift that has radically altered the fortunes of this remote area.
The Bakken Shale deposit has been known and even tapped on occasion for decades. But technological improvements in the past two years have taken what was once a small, marginally profitable field and turned it into one of the fastest-growing oil-producing areas in the U.S.
The Bakken Shale had helped North Dakota oil production double in the past three years, surging to 80 million barrels in 2009—tiny relative to the more than seven billion barrels consumed by the U.S. every year, but enough to vault the state past Oklahoma and Louisiana to become the country's fourth-biggest oil producer, after Texas, Alaska and California. If current projections hold, North Dakota's oil production could pass Alaska's by the end of the decade.
"Most people felt like they could kind of write off the oil industry in the U.S., and that's just a long way from the truth," said Harold Hamm, chairman and chief executive of Continental Resources Inc., one of the biggest Bakken producers. "The fact of the matter is that a lot of people quit looking for oil." Continental reported Thursday that its North Dakota oil production doubled in 2009 and would continue to grow rapidly this year.
The Bakken Shale could contain up to 4.3 billion barrels of recoverable oil, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. That would make it the biggest oil field discovered in the contiguous U.S. in more than 40 years—and many in the industry believe the amount of recoverable oil could be even greater as new technology allows companies to tap more of it.

POSITIVE FALL-OUT FROM RIFQA BARY?

It is now being reported at AtlasShrugs2000 that the young pastor who counseled Rifqa Bary when she was in Ohio, Brian Williams, may be prosecuted (for what, I have no idea) on criminal charges for his involvement. This wd be a nakedly political prosecution, of course. But as I like to tell my clients, in the courthouse, very often what seems good is actually bad, and what seems bad turns out to be good. I posted the following at AtlasShrugs on this topic:

If our concern is to get the truth about shariah and honor-killing amplified in a public trial WITHOUT undue pressure or risk to Rifqa, then a prosecution against Brian Williams is a MUCH BETTER OPPORTUNITY.

First, Mr. Williams is an adult who has no need of "shelter" by the state, and who can freely consult with anyone he likes to ensure his attorney is up to snuff. Also, he has no criminal record so he shd [at worst] be eligible for a reasonable bond, and he has no greater threat of assassination by jihadis after being charged than he had before.

2d, he will have the right to call Rifqa AS HIS WITNESS, for a trial which would almost assuredly occur long AFTER she turns 18. I have no doubt she wd eagerly testify on his behalf.

3d, he cd. even seek [and this may sound like a PR stunt, but it wd in any event be successful!] a "deposition to perpetuate testimony," in order to pin down Rifqa's testimony BEFORE trial. This is normally only done with a witness who is likely to die of illness or injury before trial, or likely to leave the jurisdiction, and it must be sought via a special motion to the judge. JUST THE FILING OF A MOTION FOR THIS DEPOSITION would cause an uproar, since it wd allege precisely the murderous jihadi threats that are the center of this crisis. It wd also be tailor-made for a parade of expert witnesses to explain to the criminal court (whose responsibility is NOT to the well-being of a child or preservation of a family, but to protect the fundamental rights of the ACCUSED, in this case Mr. Williams) why such a deposition is necessary, given the reasonable possibility that the essential defense witness (Rifqa) might be murdered before the actual trial. Whether or not the judge grants the motion, the court hearing ABOUT the motion wd be stunning theatre. And this wd be before the real TRIAL even starts!

4th, every hearing in the adult criminal court is open to the public. There wd be no question of jihadi attorneys hiding anything from the public. In fact, the jihadi attorneys will not even have a place in the trial. Just the prosecutor and the defense, period.

5th, every opinion that is uttered on the witness stand is 100% immune from libel charges (a time-tested jihadi tool of lawfare), and is forever implanted on the public record.

I'm sure I can think of other benefits from a criminal trial against Mr. Williams, with more time.

I emphasize that I do NOT take lightly the stress of a criminal proceeding against anyone, much less a nice young fellow like Brian Williams who has done nothing to deserve it, but only served as a good Samaritan, if not a hero. But we have discussed a LOT about the political implications to this case, and its risks to our side. My great fear has always been dread physical harm to Rifqa Bary, pure and simple. I defended the efforts of HER attorneys in Ohio, since I thought, and think, they have effectively preserved her from that harm and show promise to continue to do so. It has concerned me that some of her good supporters, who want a trial in dependency court above all, seem to minimize that physical risk.

Given that, they should be happy to see the older, non-apostate Brian Williams being given the opportunity to trumpet the truth about honor-killing, with Rifqa as his solid witness. "Please, Mr. Franklin County prosecutor, don' throw me in that briar-patch!"

Of course a good defense lawyer is not cheap, but needn't be prohibitive. I'd estimate the expenses for a similar case in my part of Florida as follows:
Bond: $500-$1,000
Attorney (if not pro-bono): $3,000-$6,000
Misc. expenses: $200-$600

Given the strong support of many religious people, I don't think it wd be too hard to defray Mr. Williams' legal expenses 100%.

THOUGHTS ON RIFQA BARY

No good can come of this badgering of Mr. Stemberger, can it?

I hate to go and commit remembering here, but does anyone else recall the single great legal obstacle that Rifqa faced here in Florida? JURISDICTION, period. Once Ohio asserted its jurisdiction, it was a foregone conclusion that the case wd return there. Clarence F'ing Darrow cdn't have saved that case in Florida at that point.

Since there was not a single allegation that the Bary parents had done anything to Rifqa IN FLORIDA, then there was no question of any kind of Florida criminal charge against them. There was just Rifqa’s allegation of the threats from her Dad, but they all occurred in Ohio, so once Ohio agreed to take the case, it was GONE FROM FLORIDA.

Recall that both Florida and Ohio law enforcement had unanimously opined that neither the Barys nor their community were even a remote threat to Rifqa. This obstacle for Mr. Stemberger was in practical terms insurmountable. But even if he had commenced the long process of preparing for trial with experts like Spencer, Sultan, etc., it was moot once Ohio took the case.

Frankly, I thought it was a miracle that the case stayed in FL as long as it did (2 ½ months). And no less an expert than our amigo john jay repeatedly warned right here at this site that there were no legal grounds to keep the dependency case in Florida once the Ohio court asserted its jurisdiction.

Mr. Stemberger makes one key assertion: “The legal strategy and plan agreed to by all lawyers involved in both Florida and Ohio from the beginning has been to get Rifqa declared a “Dependent” by the state.” This may sound a little crazy to most people, but it is indeed legally essential to saving Rifqa in this circumstance. The reason is that, to a great extent, PARENTS OWN THEIR MINOR CHILDREN. PARENTS HAVE RIGHTS SUPERIOR TO THEIR MINOR CHILDREN. Doubt me? Well, what happens when---
1) Minor child slaps parent? Battery.
2) Child slaps child? Battery.
3) Parent slaps parent? Battery.
4) Parent slaps child? NOTHING—a parent is legally entitled to strike (though not INJURE, nor ABUSE) their minor child.

Another Florida example: if a minor confesses to a crime, but his parent has told the police they do not them to speak to the child, then the confession is suppressed. IN OTHER WORDS, THE PARENT WHO IS NOT PRESENT HAS MORE RIGHT TO INVOKE SILENCE THAN THE CHILD WHO IS ACTUALLY BEING QUESTIONED.

Parents own their minor children.

Without some compelling reason for the State to step in, Rifqa wd perforce be back at home, and soon dead. But her ingenious attorneys in Ohio have effectively done a back-door maneuver for her to “plead guilty” as an “unruly child.” THEREFORE, the State has to “control” her via the foster home mechanism…THEREFORE, she is NOT sent home.

THEREFORE, she is alive.

I sure appreciate Jamal Jivanjee’s heart and sincerity, but he seems to be in denial that Rifqa’s fate is indeed in A DEPENDENCY COURT CASE, where certain established rules and laws of Ohio will decide it, not divine justice nor divine truth. Mr. Stamberger has described two Ohio attorneys on the case whose credentials look mighty solid to me. Does anyone else have a remotely credible alternative to these counselors?

When I take a case, I always review with a client how we define a “win,” and how we achieve that win. To define a “win” might seem self-evident, but not always. For example, in a criminal case the theoretical objective is always to get a “case dismissed.” But sometimes that is just not feasible, or only after a frightfully high risk. Let’s say we are facing a life felony, but we are truly innocent. If we can ultimately plea it out for a misdemeanor, with just fines and court costs, is that a “win?” Many defendants will say YES, since the risk at trial is so great.

In Rifqa’s case, her team has defined a “win” as her being separated from her parents until she turns 18. Since I believe that her return to her parents poses a distinct probability of her being murdered, I agree with that definition. As I understand it (and I have NOT seen any detailed legal review of the proceedings), the agreement she entered in court a couple weeks back SECURED THAT WIN. What her parents now want to do (renege) is irrelevant—the deal is signed, sealed, delivered!

A few weeks back I was appointed a case to defend, a poor old derelict charged with panhandling (60 days max). Well, we had the trial. The very experienced prosecutor questioned the very experienced police officer, who provided the details of the panhandling in question. The prosecutor also made sure to ask the officer whether the case occurred in our county, a routine requirement to establish jurisdiction. And the officer confirmed it.

Well, the problem was that the panhandling charge was made under a municipal ordinance, not state law, so the officer needed to establish that it occurred within the city limits, not the county. After the State rested, I immediately rested without calling my poor wino defendant to quarrel with the officer’s facts, and moved for an acquittal since the prosecutor had not established that it had occurred inside the city limits. The judge agreed, case dismissed! Yaaayyy!!

But my defendant was indignant! He wanted to testify to refute the officer’s testimony that he had been panhandling. He started to argue with me, “I need to tell the judge that isn’t the way it happened!” But we already won, sir! He didn’t care—he was like Mr. Jivanjee, he wanted the TRUTH to come out, he wanted JUSTICE.

But Rifqa needs to WIN.

My friends, we all need to WIN. This is a colossal, long-term struggle, and this is a critical battle in it. But we cannot be so blinkered that we do not see the incredible value of KEEPING THIS GIRL OUT OF HER PARENTS’ CLUTCHES, in effect saving her life. That has been an amazing, almost miraculous outcome, and a HUGE VICTORY. Don’t believe me? Ask the Barys and their attorneys and CAIR, they understand how bad that outcome is for them.

John Stemberger did a creditable job with a very bad hand. I don’t know if every thing he did was perfect, but I’ve never seen a perfect representation. Has anyone? If he had a hand in picking Rifqa’s Ohio team, and they got this win, then he has the right to take a small bow, too.

I just don’t see the point in attacking Rifqa’s attorneys in this case. It is an unjustified and needless distraction, and detracts from the energy and focus we can marshal against our real jihadi enemies. Which enemies are so forcefully, skillfully and relentlessly identified and skewered at this mighty website.

But John Stemberger isn’t one of them. He deserves a break.

Consider that just in the past year:
1) While the IDF was striking Hamas in Gaza, bombs, rockets, bottles and rocks were hurled at Jews in Malmo by Muslim mobs--Reepalu did nothing.

2) Israel's tennis team was forced to play their March 2009 Davis Cup matches in an empty stadium in Malmo, since Mayor Reepalu couldn't "guarantee the safety" of the filthy Zionists if his faithful jihadi servants were allowed to buy tickets. "Let's go to the tape." The figures are hard to pick apart, but look at .02-.03 at the figure in the middle with his right hand up (for his microphone or tape recorder)--that is McCormack. He is the one speaking out loud to Croakley, who is blocked to us, but off to the right.

Croakley, remember, is the Chief Law Enforcement Officer ("Attorney General") of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Notice at .03-.05, a larger figure (Meehan) to the right of McCormack starts edging toward him, shunting him to the left. AT .05-.06, YOU CAN CLEARLY SEE THIS FIGURE SHOVE MCCORMACK HARD WITH HIS LEFT ARM. (battery #1) Because there are some steel separators on the sidewalk, McCormack falls over one of them (.07)(had McCormack suffered a serious injury, this could have been AGGRAVATED BATTERY, a felony).

You see the large shover then pretend to help McCormack up, but notice he is constantly holding McCormack, then moving himself in McCormack's way as McCormack continues to try to follow Croakley. This belies Meehan's preposterous excuse that he was "trying to help him up, make sure he wasn't hurt," please pass the barf bag. At .15, Meehan grabs McCormack to stop him from continuing (battery #2, assuming we give Meehan a pass for the "helpful holding" a few seconds earlier).

Don't forget, Martha Croakley is "the Attorney General" of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

The action goes off camera for about 12 seconds, but when we come back, Meehan is practically molesting McCormack, and all but pushes him through a storefront window (.27-.34) to prevent him from following Croakley (battery #3).

We get a different angle of the now-famous still-photo of Croakley witnessing the action--ooops, I mean "not witnessing the action"--at .08.-.14 though you really have to watch for it, she's such a dark, shrewish figure. Notice the multi-flash at .09, that is probably that very photo being taken.
